A motorcyclist in his 20s has been taken to hospital following a crash with a van on a busy Wimbledon road.

Emergency services, including London’s Air Ambulance, were called to the junction of Coombe Lane and the A3 at 1.14pm yesterday (Wednesday, October 9).

The man, who was riding a motorcycle, was treated at the scene before being taken to a major trauma centre.

His injuries were deemed serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.

There have been no arrests.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.14pm yesterday (Wednesday 9 October) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Coombe Lane and the A3, SW20.

 “We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

 “Our crews treated a man at the scene, before taking him to a London major trauma centre by road.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 1.17pm on Wednesday, 9 October, to a van in collision with a motorcycle on the A3 near the junction with Coombe Lane, New Malden.

"The rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital.

"He has sustained serious injuries, but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

"There has been no arrest.

"Any witnesses yet to speak with police are asked to call 101, ref 3684/09oct."
