Works are not taking place on Waterloo Road in Sutton despite residents receiving letters from SGN that there are.
Roadworks were undertaken on Waterloo Road for a month in 2023 to give the road some much-needed repairs.
In October 2024, SGN applied to Sutton Council to carry out works on Waterloo Road.
However, the Council refused the application under Section 58, which protects the road for at least three years.
SGN sent letters informing residents of upcoming works between October 7 and October 21 before getting permission from Sutton Council.
The Council has asked SGN to stop sending out any further letters to residents.
A spokesperson for Sutton Council said: “SGN submitted an application to carry out works on Waterloo Road, however, as we have recently undertaken works ourselves in the last year the road is protected under something called a Section 58.
“A Section 58 aims to protect the surface for a period of three years, so the request for a work permit was refused.
“It is understood that SGN sent the letter to residents informing them of upcoming works before applying to the council for the necessary permits.”
A spokesperson for SGN said: “It looks like currently there are no works planned for Waterloo Road in Sutton.”
