A busy road in Putney has closed after a flatbed lorry struck a rail bridge, leaving debris along the road.
Wandsworth Council confirmed the closure of Upper Richmond Road near East Putney Station at around 12.50pm today (October 21).
The council warned drivers on X (formally known as Twitter) to expect delays in the area and to avoid if possible.
Firefighters were called to the incident after a flatbed lorry carrying a digger smashed into a rail bridge.
The firefighters worked to ensure the area was safe, and there have been no reports of injuries.
The call was received at 12.11pm and crews from Wandsworth Fire Station were called to the scene.
The incident was concluded for the firefighters by 12.45pm On X, Wandsworth Council wrote: "There is currently a closure on Upper Richmond Road at East Putney Station due to a vehicle striking the bridge.
“Delays should be expected in the area so please avoid where possible. @LondonFire and @metpoliceuk are in attendance."
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Upper Richmond Road in Putney.
“One flatbed lorry carrying a digger collided with a rail bridge. Firefighters made the scene safe.
"There are currently no reports of any injuries.
“Control Officers received the call at 12.11 and mobilised firefighters from Wandsworth Fire Station to the scene.
“The incident was over for firefighters at 12.45."
