The Croydon college where pupils "feel safe as soon as they walk in" has been told it’s a good place of education after its most recent inspection.

The Croydon College Group was inspected from October 1 to October 4, and the report was published on November 6.

The college was ranked good in all areas: the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, education programmes for young people, adult learning programmes, apprenticeships, and provision for learners with high needs.

Inspectors said that learners and apprentices say “as soon as they walk into the college, they feel safe”, adding that the college is a “safe haven” for them.

This was reflected in high attendance rates and good standards of behaviour from the students.

The College was praised for the quality of teaching in many subjects such as health and social care, A levels and GCSE maths.

It was also noted that the curriculum at the college has been “developed with the local labour market in mind, ensuring key industries like construction have a pipeline of employable people with the right skills in the local area”.

At Coulsdon Sixth Form College, which is part of The Croydon College Group, they added physiological disorders to the curriculum after employers in health and social care requested it.

Inspectors praised the college for paying attention to what stakeholders want.

The inspection report noted that there were 200 learners with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) at the College who are provided with a range of support including specialist therapeutic staff, speech and language, vision support and occupational therapy.

Those with high needs have good attendance and a positive attitude towards learning.

Caireen Mitchell, Principal & CEO of The Croydon College Group said: “We are absolutely delighted with the overall rating of ‘Good’ for the College.

“It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and demonstrates how much they care about our students.

“Our teachers do this job because they want to make a difference to the lives of young people, they want them to succeed and do well in whatever career they choose, and I am extremely proud that this has been reflected in the Ofsted report.

“As a team we are committed to creating a safe and effective learning environment for our students and we will continue to improve and develop as an education provider that the communities of Croydon and Coulsdon can be proud of.”

The Ofsted inspection found the College to be “Good” across all the areas of education they provide including Education programmes for young people, Apprenticeships, Adult provision and Provision for Students with High Needs.
