A Croydon man has been charged with firearm offences after police recovered a shotgun and cartridges during a raid on a house in Purley.

Officers from the South Area Proactive Investigation Team executed a search warrant at the property at 5.30am on November 19.

Richard Barnes, 32, was arrested at the scene and later charged.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in custody.

Barnes is due to appear at Croydon Crown Court today (November 22).

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “On Tuesday, November 19 at around 5.30am, officers from the South Area Proactive Investigation team, carried out a search warrant at an address in Purley, Croydon, and recovered a shotgun and cartridges from a house.

“Richard Barnes, 32, of Croydon, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with firearm offences.

“He is in remand at Croydon Magistrates' Court and is due to appear at Croydon Crown Court on Friday, November 22.”
