So just over 2 years ago, I was invited to a night out to Chicago's in Sutton. For a good hour or so, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go or not.
After throwing some gel in my hair and seeing the impressive results in the mirror (a rare moment), I thought it wouldn't hurt to go out and enjoy a few drinks with some friends.
In attendance was Chris, Gemma, Becky, Joanne and a couple of her mates from work. My mate Steve was also due to appear, but in typical Steve fashion, he didn't turn up until gone 10.00.
I was sat there with my mate Chris, when this girl came in and went right up to Jo and said, not too quietly I might add, “Hello! Oh my god, I just realised you can see my spotty bra underneath my stripey top! How embarrassing!? Spots and stripes so don't go together!”... or something to that effect. They both laughed and Joanne went on to introduce this rather confident young lady to everyone.
As the night progressed, we got chatting and talked about various things, I was a bit drunk, so all this is actually a bit of a blur. But I do remember talking about my favourite member from Girls Aloud. Also, when Steve finally arrived, it turned out that he knew this girl and that she used to work with Steve's better half, Hayley.
At about 2.00am, we left and all headed to Joanne's house. On the way, we stopped at “Kebab Planet” (a classy establishment!) and it was there that we exchanged numbers.
A little later, we were in a cab, on our way to our respective homes. When we got to mine, I remember thinking to myself, “f#ck it, life only rewards the bold” and I asked “Um, would you like to go out for a drink sometime?”. To which she agreed.... The hair gel did the trick.
That was my first encounter with Holly.
Yesterday was the 2 year anniversary of our first date. I got Holly some flowers, Pushing Daisies and Penelope on DVD – which we watched later (is it wrong that I still found Christina Ricci quite fit despite the pig nose?). Holly got me a tripod and remote control for my SLR camera, cue lots of silly self portraits.
Thinking back whilst writing that account - how different would my life be now if I had decided to stay in? I'd probably still be working miles from my home. I'd probably still be living with my mum and dad. I'd probably still be wasting all my money in over priced pubs and nightclubs and I'd probably still be single.
