In a novel twist to the proposal game, one beau must be hoping his girlfriend takes her eyes off the road long enough to notice that timeless question adorning an overpass on the A217.
The white banner, which reads: “Will you marry me Carly, love Rusko” is hung on the overpass on cross section of Glastonbury Avenue and Reigate Road in Sutton.
The author of the banner and who it refers to is a mystery to local residents who say that it has been up for a few days.
Gail Blake, 38, of Reigate road said: “I have no idea who these people might be.
“I know pretty much everyone in the area. There are always banners up on the overpass for anniversaries and birthdays.
“I don't remember seeing a proposal before though.”
Her husband David, 40, added: “It must be someone who uses the A217 regularly.
“Not a bad way to propose, especially considering that this is an accident hot spot!”
