The sky is literally the limit for a 73-year-old grandmother who is set to do acrobatics on a plane over the Epsom Downs for charity later this month.
Olive Sorrill, 73, of Tumblewood Road, Banstead, is due to be the brave passenger of a small Cessna plane set to do loops, death spirals, fly upside down and even turn its engine off for a brief moment to raise money for St Raphael’s Hospice in Sutton.
She said: “I’m looking forward to it. I want to do all these crazy things so I can write about them on my 80th birthday invitation.”
The mum of three and grandmother of five is no stranger to adventure, completing a parachute jump last year, also for charity.
But her record of adventures does not stop there. She did paragliding in Mexico and Harley-Davidson riding in Australia.
“My family thinks I’ve gone mad,” she said.
Mrs Sorrill is planning more crazy stunts to raise money for worthy causes.
Among them is wing walking and sliding through a zip wire from the top of the Epsom Downs to the racecourse.
“If you can do something, go and do it,” she said. “Life is too short, and you don’t know what’s around the corner.”
The plane is scheduled to take off from the Redhill Aerodrome at 2pm, on September 28, and spin around Banstead and the Epsom Downs for 30 minutes.
St Raphael’s Hospice director of fundraising Keith Witham said: “As well as raising money, this helps raising awarenessto the work of the hospice.
“Last year, when she did the parachute jump, she raised £1,630 for our cause."
