A driver believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel of their car smashed into an opticians this morning.
Police, ambulance crews and Sutton fire brigade were called to the scene in Station Way at around 4.29am.
The crash brought down the wall of Gordon Turner opticians in Cheam.
Owner of the opticians, Ross Turner, said he was called by police at 5.30am and went straight to the scene.
"It was a shock," he said, adding: "We're closed for today and I'm just waiting for the structural engineer to arrive."
A spokesman for the fire service said the driver did not appear to be intoxicated and could have fallen asleep at the wheel.
A police spokeswoman confirmed they were called to the scene at 4.29am and that a female was taken to hospital.
Police arranged for the car, a silver Ford Focus estate, to be removed from the scene this morning.
Sutton Police are investigating the incident.
