Big-hearted employees from delivery company TNT are embarking on a drive to fight hunger around the globe.

The team from TNT’s Croydon depot at Jessop’s Way, Beddington Lane, will be among those taking part in a week-long festival of fundraising to help feed and educate malnourished youngsters in Africa.

More than 60 TNT express services depots, hubs, customer contact centres and offices, covering the length and breadth of the country, will be combining their efforts as part of a specially designed Fight Hunger Week initiative, which began on Monday.

Greg Birt, general manager at the Croydon depot, said all the funds raised in the UK will go to the WFP’s school feeding programme in Tanzania.

He said: “It costs just 7p a day to provide a nutritional meal and schooling for a child in Tanzania – it’s amazing to think that such a small amount of money can have such a massive and positive impact in a young person’s life.

“We may be in the grip of a recession, but it gives you a different perspective when you see the profound effect each and every one of us can have for the sake of what most of us would regard as loose change.”
