A man who has three cars parked in his own driveway is being forced by the council to get rid of one of them.

Rob Armour, 34, of Eastdean Avenue, Epsom, used to store several cars at the front of his house, but brought the number down to three when asked by Epsom and Ewell Council to do so.

He now keeps a racing car, his father’s car and the one he regularly uses parked in the driveway of his home.

However, the council still took an enforcement order against Mr Armour, to take effect on March 20, claiming the storage of three cars on his property was a “breach of planning control”.

He said: “They’ve asked me to get rid of the other cars I had here and not to have more than three cars parked outside. I got it down to three, as stated in the letter and presumed everything was fine.

“I’m a racing enthusiast, so one of the cars I use for racing.

“The other one belongs to my dad, who’s disabled and can’t drive anymore and the other one is the one I use regularly.

“Even though I did what they asked me to, they’re claiming there’s been change of use of my land.”

Mr Armour is now appealing the council’s order.

A spokeswoman for Epsom and Ewell Council said: “The council has issued an enforcement notice to control the numbers of stored cars on a shared driveway at the property to two. There is a clear difference between parked cars and stored cars.

“Parked cars will normally come and go while stored cars may not move for a long period of time. This gentleman shares his driveway with his neighbours and there is only enough space for up to three cars to be parked in the open.

“The gentleman has appealed the notice and has made a further complaint to the inspectorate, which is currently being dealt with.”
