Two Sutton girls have turned their lives around after taking part in a social inclusion programme.
Kara Hitchin, 19, and Keeley Wilcox, 20, now represent the Youth Advisory Board, after being involved in the Positive Futures project, funded by the Home Office.
Miss Hitchin joined Positive Futures in 2005, following a referral through a local project in Sutton, which works with young people struggling at school.
Despite her difficult home life which involves caring for her severely disabled brother she made time helping other young people.
Three years down the line she was employed by Positive Futures on the apprenticeship programme, gaining the skills and knowledge to become a sports development officer.
In December 2008, Miss Hitchin was invited to represent Positive Futures on the Youth Advisory Board.
After leading a dance group to international success and winning the Imagine Sports Photography, Miss Wilcox, who suffered with family problems, is now a paid member of the team.
She has recently been assigned to co-ordinate a London-wide streetdance event to be performed at Leicester Square this week as part of the Government’s National Tackling Drugs Week.
