The winners of a competition to rename a leafy corner of Mitcham were revealed last week after a six month effort to transform the area.
Dozens of residents and local schools have taken part in the “beautifying Longthornton” project planting and gardening on a disused strip of land in the ward.
With the work completed, local councillor David Chung - who instigated the project - asked resident’s to pick a name for the green space with the winning entry, “Mizen’s Corner”, composed by Hazel Curt.
Other names commended by the judges came from students from Lonesome and Stanford primary school included the suggestions “Valley Paradise” and “Arch Garden”.
Another competition for green-fingered residents - Longthornton in Bloom - has also begun with judges visiting garden in the area from mid-July. For more information email beautifyLT@aol.com
