ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT, 1984, SECTION 14 AS AMENDED
THE ROAD TRAFFIC (TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS) ACT 1991 AND ALL OTHER ENABLING POWERS
ADDISCOMBE ROAD, CROWN HILL, DINGWALL ROAD, GEORGE STREET EAST, GEORGE STREET WEST, WELLESLEY ROAD, CROYDON
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR TRAFFIC
1. Croydon Council, HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that to facilitate major tram track maintenance works they intend to make an Order the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrian movements and restrict vehicular traffic movements in Addiscombe Road, Crown Hill, Dingwall Road, George Street East, George Street West, Wellesley Road.
2. Whilst the said works are taking place:-
(a) the 'tram only' lanes that apply in:
1) Wellesley Road (the north-easternmost carriageway in the slip road which lies to the north-east of The Underpass),
2) George Street (East) (between its junctions with Wellesley Road and Addiscombe Road) and
3) Addiscombe Road (between its junctions with George Street and Cherry Orchard Road) will be suspended for the duration of the works and replaced by temporary taxi ranks for use by hackney carriages only;
(b) the 'tram only' lane that applies in Crown Hill, between its junctions with Middle Street and North End will be suspended;
(c) suspend the southbound bus lane in Dingwall Road;
(d) suspend for the duration of the works the one-way working in:
1) Crown Hill, between its junctions with North End and Middle Street;
2) George Street (West), between its junctions with Wellesley Road and North End;
(e) suspend for the duration of the works the prohibition on vehicles entering Crown Hill north-east of its junction with Middle Street;
(f) permit access for vehicles entering Crown Hill, between its junctions with Middle Street and North End, between 10am and 6pm throughout the week;
(g) temporarily close to vehicular traffic both carriageways of the north-easternmost slip road of Wellesley Road which lies immediately to the north-east of The Underpass with an exemption for hackney carriages entering a temporary taxi rank;
(h) temporarily close to vehicular traffic:
1) Wellesley Road, the northbound carriageway, at its junction with George Street (West);
2) George Street (West), at its junction with the northbound carriageway of Wellesley Road;
(i) temporarily close to vehicular and pedestrian traffic that part of the north-west side of Addiscombe Road at its junction with Billington Hill.
Note: Entry will be permitted into George Street (West) at its western end and will be controlled by Banksmen.
3. Whilst the Order remains in force vehicular access to and from Billington Hill will be via Cherry Orchard Road.
4. The Order will come into operation on 7 July 2009 and it is anticipated that the works will be carried out in 6 weeks. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further works be required.
(Vehicular access will be maintained.)
