Morden Underground station has been identified as a “borough hotspot” for antisocial behaviour after an increase in reports of drunkenness, rowdy behaviour and fare disputes.
In a bid to combat the problem, Merton Safer Transport Team joined forces with the British Transport Police and other agencies during May.
High visibility patrols were set up on local transport routes and a screening arch was placed outside the main entrance to the station.
Among those arrested was one for carrying a knife and another for the theft of a freedom pass.
The team said the operations had been “extremely successful” with positive feedback from commuters and local residents.
Regular patrols in the area will continue to offer reassurance to the public.
Monthly bus surgeries are held by the team to answer questions from Merton residents. The next surgery will be held on July 14, from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm at Sainsbury’s, Colliers Wood, and Lidl in Morden.
Another is due to take place on July 15 at the bus stop close to Blockbusters in Mitcham and at Sainsbury’s, Worple Road.
