Croydon Chief Superintendent Adrian Roberts has had his acting position of Borough Commander made permanent.

The former Territorial Support Group officer takes over the role from former Borough Commander, Mark Gore, who was promoted to one of seven new commanders positions for the Met, the equivalent of assistant chief constables in other forces.

Ch Supt Roberts said: “I am immensely proud to have been selected as Croydon’s Borough Commander. I have grown up as a boy in Croydon and I am extremely excited now to be given the opportunity to play my part in its exciting future.

“I am fully committed and determined to build on the excellent relationships that have been forged between the police and statutory, voluntary and community partners to drive down crime and make Croydon a safe place.”

Cabinet member for community safety and cohesion, Councillor Gavin Barwell said: “With community safety top of our public service agenda, I am delighted that Adrian Roberts is to become Croydon’s next borough commander.

"He is a dedicated police officer who inspires confidence among all those he works with.

"He lives locally and therefore not only has a deep knowledge of the borough and what makes it tick, but also has a personal, family interest in how the place is policed and perceived by its residents.

“Adrian thoroughly deserves his promotion.

"He has shown that he is committed to making Croydon a safer place and in his time as acting borough commander has made it clear that he understands effective policing can be enhanced and through working closely with a range of local partners.

"The council welcomes his appointment. Croydon has an excellent, experienced police officer at its helm, someone who is accessible and has earned respect.

"We look forward to continue working together to achieve our joint ambition of preventing and detecting crime.”
