A temporary worker has won an award for dedication to her job.

Marion Thatcher, a temporary worker with recruitment agency Tate, won this year’s One in a Million competition.

Tate said she had gone “above and beyond expectations”, and her manager believes she is head and shoulders above the rest.

Jennie Bryan, Mrs Thatcher’s manager, said: “She does not need constant supervision, which is great as you only need to show her the job once.

“She gets on with her job and completes the work within the deadlines given.

“Marion is courteous, shows initiative and is utterly reliable and has given me the faith to believe Tate temporary staff are the crème de la crème.

“I now refuse to use any other employment agency other then Tate for our temporary staff.”

Mrs Thatcher came from South Africa in July 2008, and began working through Tate in August 2008.

She was initially looking for permanent assignments and was open to temporary work in the interim.

Her first temporary job was an eight-week assignment for NDC, and she is currently working there again.

She enjoys the variety in her role but loves being able to use her own initiative and work autonomously.

Mrs Thatcher went the extra mile when tasked to report statistics based on geographical location.

This was not a strength of her’s, being new to the UK at the time, so her manager suggested she do as much as she could and return the report to him.

Mrs Thatcher, determined to hand in a completed report, spent the evening at home researching maps of the UK.

The next day she submitted a finalised report, freeing up her manager’s time and exceeding targets set.

Lesley Prieto, Tate manager in Croydon, said: “We are certainly very proud to have Marion representing Tate and believe she is a true reflection of what a perfect temporary employee is.

“Marion is obviously extremely well-thought of at both NDC, for whom she has been working, and Tate.

“Our congratulations to her for winning Tate’s One In a Million 2009 competition.”
