A town forum is to be held in Weybridge next month to give residents a chance to have their say on potential changes to the planning system in Elmbridge.
The Weybridge Society has organised the meeting for Monday, July 20, at St James Church in Church Street, to discuss Elmbridge Council’s Core Strategy - a document it will send to the Government at the end of the year as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF).
The creation of the LDF is part of the Government’s intention to reform the planning system throughout the country and the core strategy will state the borough council’s future policies for almost every aspect of development - including the additional number of homes to be built in the borough and where to allocate them, greenbelt and conservation areas and the local infrastructure.
The council is carrying out a six week public consultation on the Core Strategy from June 26, during which a summary will be sent to households in the borough.
Barry Judd, chairman of the Weybridge Society, said: “The Elmbridge core strategy is crucial. Do residents want Weybridge to be more like Walton on the one hand or Cobham on the other? That is what is going to be influenced by the core strategy.
“The society’s town forum is an opportunity - perhaps the last - for local residents to have their say. We are grateful to the rector of St James Church for allowing us to hold the meeting in the church.”
