The Green Dragon is the best pub in Croydon, bar none, according to a council-run awards scheme.
The town centre favourite was announced overall winner at the council’s Best Bar None awards at an event at the Croydon Hilton yesterday.
Actor Graham Cole, who plays PC Tony Stamp in ITV cop show The Bill, handed out the award, with the pub also picking up the title of Best Pub, while Milan Bar netted Best Late Night Venue.
Claiming a prized “accredited” rating were 33 other establishments from around the borough.
The Best Bar None awards offer licensed premises the opportunity to prove they are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of their customers.
The scheme promotes responsible standards of management and aims to reduce drink-related crime.
Councillor Gavin Barwell, cabinet member for community safety and cohesion, offered his congratulations to the management and staff of the Green Dragon and the other successful establishments.
He added: “We are very proud of Croydon’s Best Bar None scheme which has gone from strength to strength. This year, more pubs and clubs than ever before have taken part demonstrating their commitment to a safer and more enjoyable nightlife in the borough.
"Since its introduction, seven years ago, the scheme has also helped contribute to a significant reduction in alcohol-related crime and associated disorder in and around the town centre.”
