A suspected burglar was arrested after a member of the public spotted a man hiding in bushes in Hook Road, Epsom.
Surrey Police was called at 11.30am on Wednesday, June 10 to Chessington Road following reports a burglary was in progress at a detached house.
Officers were quickly on the scene and began searching the area for the burglar who had been seen leaving the property and escaping over a fence and into a neighbouring garden.
During the hunt a number of people reported seeing a man matching the burglar’s description. At 3.15pm officers arrested a man in Hook Road on suspicion of burglary.
Detective Inspector Richard Hamlin, who heads up east Surrey’s pro-active investigation team, said: “Officers responded within minutes of the original call reporting the burglary in Chessington Road and began pursuing the suspect.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of public who called in reporting sightings of the suspect which eventually led us to arrest a man some four hours after the burglary.
Surrey Police is working hard to target burglars and with your help we can ensure crime is kept low.”
