Plans to rejuvenate the riverside below Kingston Bridge are to be unveiled to the public at an exhibition at the Rose Theatre tomorrow afternoon.
Canadian and Portland Estates wants to open up the riverside with more walkways and a double height landmark pavillion.
They will also strip away the dark brown brick of 1979 Bishops Palace House, which is now occupied by TK-Maxx.
A new ‘green wall’ will create a more attractive entrance point to the river from the town centre but the car park, described as isolated and difficult to reach, will be removed.
Construction will take place in two stages, with most of the work carried out during the winter.
The scheme will have to get past the Kingston Council planning application process first though.
The exhibition will be at the Rose theatre on Friday from 2pm to 7pm and on Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm.
John Miles, of Canadian and Portland Estates which bought the buildings four years ago, said: “We are very excited and certainly the response so far has been 100 percent positive.”
Jennifer Butterworth from conservation group, the Kingston Society, said of the plans: “We were impressed and thought they were an improvement.
“They make it easier to see the river and makes better use of the riverside frontage.”
