Relatives of patients in Springfield Hospital’s secure units celebrated Carers’ Week this year with a special event.
Families met with hospital staff on June 10 to learn about the hospital’s forensic service, which treats and rehabilitate patients.
Many of those housed in the secure units have committed a crime while suffering with mental illness, but with the right treatment may one day live independently or with their loved ones, who are classed as carers.
Julie Harris, deputy director of the forensic service, said: “Carers play a vital role in supporting service users during their time in hospital and it was great to meet relatives and help them understand more about the work we do here.
“Feedback from those that attended has been very positive and I know staff found it helpful to hear from carers about how we can support them more.”
