The “noise police” will patrol the streets of Kingston from this weekend, with powers to seize music equipment from rowdy parties.
A council environmental health officer will be out every Saturday night until the end of August to respond to noise complaints.
They have powers that the police do not have, including serving official notices and seizing equipment if the noise continues.
The late night patrols were axed by Kingston Council in budget cuts last year but have been reinstated by public demand.
They will run from midnight until 3am and are expected to visit about six properties each night, with police back-up if required.
Councillor Bob Steed, executive member for environmental health, said: “We are not in the business of stopping people enjoying themselves or having parties, but our advice is to be considerate of your neighbours and give them advance warning if you are going to have a party.
“Our patrols will be looking to prevent the very small minority of events that lead to antisocial behaviour.”
Anyone being troubled by serious noise should contact 020 8547 5800.
