A police drugs raid was called off on Friday night, after a suspected firearms incident in Chessington.
Officers had been preparing to carry out the raid as part of National Tackling Drugs Week, but a last minute call called for their withdrawal and they aborted the search warrant.
It turned out to be a false alarm, sparked by a mistaken sighting from a member of the public.
A police spokesman said: “The information we had, we had to act on.
"It now looks like a group of kids were chasing a boy.
"The information we had was that someone was pointing something at him and because it was from a distance, we had to treat it seriously.”
The cancelled raid was among a number of intelligence-led operations carried out in the area throughout the week.
