The final agreement between the developers of the controversial Jolly Boatman plans and Elmbridge Council was signed this on Wednesday, June 17, a day before the deadline.

Last December, the council gave developers Gladedale permission to start work on the scheme, which includes a 61-bedroom hotel, 66 residential units, a new care home for the Royal Star and Garter charity and a refurbished building at Hampton Court station.

The development will also include shops, an underground car park and a new transport interchange.

One source told the Elmbridge Guardian Gladedale was being asked to spend £1.6m on refurbishment of Hampton Court station, £520,000 on affordable housing, £500,000 on the public river front square and £330,000 on improving Cigarette Island and commissioning artworks.

Other unconfirmed planning gains include £330,000 on highways work and £202,000 on underground water tanks.

Gladedale were contacted about the claims, but failed to confirm them.
