Croydon’s dignitaries gathered in front of the Town Hall on Monday to honour the country’s armed forces.
The flag raising ceremony was part of the first National Armed Forces Day, which is to be celebrated later this month.
The Mayor of Croydon Margaret Meads was joined by members of the council, military and veterans to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community.
Hundreds of communities across the UK simultaneously raised the Armed Forces Day flag to mark the occasion.
To celebrate Armed Forces Day in Croydon there will be an open day at the Mitcham Road barracks, on Saturday, June 27, where the four TA regiments stationed there will have stalls.
All of the money raised from the public even will go to an armed forces charity.
