Hundreds of jazz lovers revelled in the summer sunshine at a special outdoor music concert.

Jay Craig and his Orchestra entertained a large audience at the annual Big Band Concert in the gardens of Nonsuch Mansion House last Friday.

John Edwards, from organisers Nonsuch Rotary Club, said: "We were delighted to invite Jay Craig for his first visit to Nonsuch.

"Judging from the many comments I heard, they certainly more than lived up to their fine reputation."

Early arrivals tucked into their picnics while being entertained by the Redhill and Reigate Stompers before Jay Craig regaled the audience with the crowd pleasers "Brazil" and "It's Not Unusual".

Jazz conoisseurs were impressed to see such well-known trumpet players as Andy Greenwood and Tony Fisher as well as top vocalists Lorraine Craig and Matthew Ford.

The Rotary Club said it was indebted to the help of local businesses, including its principal sponsor, Dean Kirby.

The money raised will go towards the Friends of Nonsuch, Rotary Charities and the Macmillan Butterfly Centre.

Jay Craig has promised to return next year and has already set a provisional date of Friday 18th June.
