Police officers from Kingston and Sutton started their FA Football level one coaching qualification this month, in the hope they can use the skill to engage with young people in the area.

The 18 officers taking part form part of the safer neighbourhood teams and have been put through their paces at the Imber Court Sports Club in Ember Lane, East Molesey. They will complete the course on Friday, June 26.

The Surrey County Football Association (FA) has been helping police organise the training and will work closely with them to ensure the officers can utilise the training to make a difference in the community.

Craig Hicks from the Surrey County FA said: “I am delighted that a course has been designed to enable police officers to gain their level one certificate in coaching football.

“It is our aim to establish safe and structured football within Surrey and this qualification will enable the officer’s to deliver football sessions within their community.”
