Employees at BT’s Centre Point could be loaned out to help the firm avoid making redundancies.
Staff at Centre Point are likely to be among those allowed to work for “non competing” firms.
A BT spokeswoman said: “BT has a tradition of innovation for flexible working practices.
“We have extended this concept into secondments and other non-competing commercial organisations, where companies recognise and pay for the skills and experience that BT people bring.
“This approach is good for our people, bringing new work and challenges, and is good for the organisations concerned, as we make available a qualified and experienced workforce.
"It is another innovative way to help keep employees during these tough economic times.”
