An Olympic hopeful from Croydon paid a visit this week to Archbishop Tenison’s School as part of their preparation for Lloyd TSB National School Sport Week.

Twinelle Hopeson, 17, a talented sprinter and former Archbishop Tenison’s pupil, is an emerging Olympic talent being supported on the journey to London 2012 and beyond by the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme.

Pupils at the school were given the chance to meet the young athlete as part of an initiative by Lloyds TSB to encourage more young people across Britain to do more sport. The sport week between June 29 and July 3 aims to inspire millions of young people in more than 10,000 schools, including 59 Croydon schools, to get active.

Speaking at Archbishop Tenison’s School, Twinelle said: “It is great to be able to meet students at Archbishop Tenison’s School and find out what Sports Pledges they’ve made for Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week. I first began my sporting journey at this school and it was there that I was encouraged to focus more on athletics and given opportunities to move up the ranks.

“I hope that my ambition of competing at the Olympics will have inspired pupils at Archbishop Tenison’s School to do more sport both in and out of school and follow their own sporting dreams.”

Schools, community centres and organisations in the Croydon area who would like to become involved in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week should visit schoolsportweek.org.
