Leaseholders in Lambeth could face hefty increases in their energy bills because of a problem with energy meters on housing estates.
Electricity used in external communal areas on some estates are unmetered, meaning under the contract between energy supplier EDF and Lambeth Council, some leaseholders are not billed for the energy they have used.
A Lambeth Council spokeswoman said: “EDF has told us that they now intend to change this arrangement, so we are arranging to audit meter use and charges for all tenants and leaseholders, and where anomalies exist, they will be corrected."
Leaseholders concerned about the increases should contact Lambeth’s housing manager, Lambeth Living.
