A GP watched helplessly as his home of 25 years went up in flames after being struck by a bolt of lightning.
The doctor and his family escaped unhurt after the electric charge set fire to their property in Ingleby Way, Carshalton.
Firefighters took more than an hour to douse the flames that engulfed the roof during ferocious storms last Monday.
Repairs to the gutted top floor and soaked interior are now expected to take up to nine months.
The doctor, who did not want to be named, said: “You expect to see this sort of thing in Africa or India but not here.
“It is just my luck that, of all the houses, the lightning would have to strike mine.”
