Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake is advocating a new environmentally-friendly product to be used in aerosols.

The new technology, a coconut shell-based activated carbon created by Carshalton Beeches company KBIG, is a green propellant which leaves aerosol cans empty and ready to be recycled.

Last Tuesday, Mr Brake mentioned the innovative work of KBIG in a debate in Parliament and how its new product could help to combat global warming.

He said: “Environmentally damaging aerosol propellants are contributing to global warming and climate change.”

During the debate he drew attention to the new environmentally-friendly technology, which has been developed by KBIG and invented by Mike Garrett MBE, the only person ever to be awarded an MBE for innovation.

Mr Garrett’s previous inventions have included the Vitox oxygen dissolver, which helped to dramatically improve the fish population in the river Thames by adding oxygen to the water.

Andy Martin, KBIG Managing Director, said: “We are very pleased Tom secured this debate, giving us the chance to promote our green technology directly to the Prime Minister.”

The European Union currently has draft prop-osals, similar to legislation introduced by Arnold Schwarzenegger in California, which will make the aerosols in use now illegal, because of the damage they do to the environment.

Mr Brake wants the debate to draw attention to the draft proposals and will increase pressure upon the Government to support action to phase out propellants in aerosols which damage the climate.
