A brutal mugger who strangled a woman in West Norwood before making off with her watch and handbag has been found guilty of a string of violent muggings.

Matthew Mykoo, 27, targeted lone women in seven “strangulation robberies” carried out with his brother Daniel, 28, between March and June last year, Wood Green Crown Court heard.

Daniel would grab the victim and strangle them while Matthew stole their bags, jewellery and other personal possessions, the court heard.

Prosecutor Adeniyi Ogunleye said: “These were violent attacks and in a few cases the victims lost consciousness.

"It was sheer luck that no one was seriously injured or even killed.”

Matthew Mykoo was found guilty on June 24, of seven violent muggings, including the attack on a woman in her 50s in West Norwood on June 14 last year.

Daniel Mykoo had already admitted 19 counts of robbery at a hearing on March 24, including an attack on designer Nicole Farhi, of which Matthew was cleared.

Mobile phone tracking was used by police to pinpoint the muggers at some of the crime scenes.

The two brothers also sold stolen items to pawnbrokers, while other stolen articles were found in their north London homes.

They will be sentenced on July 23 and 24.
