Macho sun-worshipping men in Lambeth are ignoring the risks of skin cancer despite knowing its dangers, according to worrying statistics published by anti-cancer campaigners.

One in five do not use sunscreen on a beach holiday, over half do not apply sunscreen when playing outdoor sport, and over two thirds do not apply sunscreen when working outside, according to a survey by the South East London Cancer Network.

This is despite Lambeth men being the most worried about skin cancer of all south east London boroughs, according to the research.

NHS Lambeth say their behaviour is particularly worrying given Met Office predictions of a scorching summer.

Dr Jamie Ferguson, the cancer network’s medical director said: ”Young men may think that it’s not macho to protect themselves in the sun, but they need to think again because they’re risking their lives.”
