Competitive gardeners are ready to battle it out in the prestigious Merton in Bloom championships.

There are prizes available for the best garden by residents, children, schools, pubs, offices and community groups. The competition is part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s national Britain in Bloom event.

The council’s cabinet member for the environment, Coun David Simpson, said: “This is great opportunity for residents to showcase their wonderful gardens, so I would say to everyone, get those spades and trowels ready, start pruning your plants and enter this year’s competition.”

Gardeners should complete an entry form available at libraries, Morden Civic Centre or online at merton.gov.uk/mertoninbloom by July 6.
