The importance of recycling has been reinforced to the thousands of tennis fans queuing for tickets for the Wimbledon Championship.
With an average of 2,000 people camping in Wimbledon Park each night and more than 15,000 queuing during the day for the tournament’s first week, Merton council installed a recycling stand to remind people to protect the area and dispose of their waste appropriately.
Two sculptures of tennis players made from rubbish were commissioned as part of a mini-exhibition, dedicated to protecting the environment, that the hordes patient fans could pop into as they waited in line.
