Fun, music and colourfully dressed TV characters are due to hit New Malden on July 4, when residents celebrate the 25th anniversary of the annual Malden Fortnight festival.

Now in its silver jubilee year, the popular fortnight of events and activities kicks off at noon, with musical performances at the Fountain Pub, before the annual parade of floats, bands and walking groups marking two-and-a-half decades of children’s television hit the streets at 2pm.

The party continues at the Fountain all afternoon, with Korean traditional music, salsa dance and the Dave Merrion jazz orchestra all joining in the free celebrations until 5pm.

A jam-packed day of entertainment continues in the Malden Centre’s Rose Room between 2pm and 4.30pm, when Maldens and Coombe Horticultural Society shows off flower arranging, sells vegetables and plants and holds a raffle and tombola.

Closer links have been forged with New Malden’s extensive Korean community in this year’s festival thanks to a partnership with local inclusive arts group Theatre 4 All - the highlight being an all-day Korean food festival at the Fountain Pub on July 11.

A total of 21 events are running throughout the town until July 17, including the ever popular craft fair in the High Street on July 11 and the canine craziness of the dog show on July 12.
