A grandmother is organising a march in protest at the year-long closure of a GP surgery in Kingston.
The surgery at 164 Tudor Drive was fitted out by Dr Charles Alessi at Churchill Medical Practice last year, at the same time as Kingston NHS Primary Care Trust was about to award a new contract for a GP surgery.
But the contract went to Dr Muneeb Choudhry of AT Medics instead, at 192 Tudor Drive. Since then, Dr Alessi has been locked in legal wrangles with Kingston NHS which said allowing him to open could undercut Dr Choudry.
Grace Edwards, 66, a former patient of the Churchill practice, presented a 800-strong petition to councillors on the health and overview scrutiny committee on Thursday evening.
She said: “The people of the area should not be denied a choice.”
