The opening night of the International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) will see a group of young people take over the Rose for a spectacular night of live music.
The Youth TakeOver is on July 3 and the organisers, who have spent months putting it together, cannot wait for the night to come around.
Jarek Zaba, the Youth TakeOver production manager, says: “We want to give young people in Kingston a variety of music. The headliners play a brand of international music which you can dance and have fun to.
“The novelty of having it in the Rose will be brilliant – a venue that is normally for theatre will be full of mad youths dancing!”
The line-up features established acts such as the Latin Dub Soundsystem and Forty Thieves Orkestar, alongside a number of up-and-coming local performers, and Zaba believes the bill that has been put together is an eclectic one.
He says: “A young band from Kingston Grammar School will start the show. While our headliners are completely different. Forty Thieves Orkestar play hip-hop with eastern and gypsy influences and Latin Dub Soundsystem mixes Latin with dub.”
There will also be DJs playing to keep the young crowd dancing and there is a restriction on anyone over the age of 26.
