Wildlife lovers will have the chance to visit convalescent animals being treated at a rescue centre in an open afternoon.

Visitors will be able to see many of the animals recuperating in the outside enclosures and aviaries of The London Wildcare Trust, including a deer and a badger, the latest arrivals at the animal hospital.

The fundraising event helps the centre to stay open, as it relies entirely on donations to raise the £180,000 plus a year it needs to maintain the free 24/7 service – rescuing, treating and supporting the recovery of wildlife.

Ted Burden, the Trust’s founder, said: “The charity is ineligible for Government or Lottery support and we rely heavily on the generosity of the public.

“There is a constant flow of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals that need rescuing or are brought in by members of the public and we are committed to caring for those animals.

“Sunday’s event is an opportunity for us to explain and show people just what goes on at the hospital and rescue centre and hopefully raise some much needed money.”

The open afternoon will happen on Sunday (July 5) from 1pm to 4pm and will include a wildlife talk by Mr Burden, information on wildlife gardening, craft sale and stalls.

As one of the largest and busiest professional wildlife facilities in the UK, the London Wildcare Trust regularly provides specialist training and assistance to the police and fire services as well as other national animal groups and private vets.

Admission to the event at the London Wildcare Trust, Beddington Park, Church Road, Wallington, will be just 50p (members free).
