Michael Jackson’s legendary producer Quincy Jones broke down in tears when he heard one of the King of Pop’s classic tracks at Wandsworth Palais on Saturday.

Jones had been invited to the event by Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am, who was playing a DJ set at the club, situated in Wandsworth High Street.

The 76-year-old producer was inconsolable when he heard ‘Wanna Be Starting Something’ and had to be taken to one of the backstage dressing rooms to compose himself.

An onlooker said: ”Quincy had arrived at the club to see Will.i.am DJ and went over to the DJ booth to say hello, they both spoke briefly about how devastated they were that Michael had passed away.

“Will.i.am started mixing a collection of classic Jackson hits produced by Quincy and he just broke down. He asked to be taken to the dressing room because he needed some time to himself.”

In 1978 Jackson asked Jones to produce his upcoming debut solo album ‘Off The Wall.

The album, which eventually sold a staggering 20 million copies, made Jones the most powerful record producer in the industry and confirmed Jackson's crossover from soul singer to pop star.

The pair's next collaboration ‘Thriller’ sold a reputed 50 million copies and became the highest-selling album of all time and made Jackson the undisputed, and self-titled, 'King of Pop'.

Jackson, 50, died after suffering a cardiac arrest at home in Los Angeles last Thursday, June 25.

Next up at the Wandsworth Palais is Kid Cudi, who will be performing his hit Day n’ Night this Saturday, July 4.
