By community correspondent Lizzie Carter Many of us are sad about Woolworths closing down. The Woolworths in Kingston was very popular, and, on weekends particularly, it was quite crowded. So why did it close down?
Many would say that when the Tesco’s and B&Q’s appeared, people hurried to them, knowing that they would be able to find what they wanted. But when going to Woolworths, you would find dolls houses and sweets, furniture and birthday cards, DVD’s and more, so you wouldn’t really know what you were going to get. Woolworths had been around for many years before we saw the signs of sales, and it was a shock to some of us, but thinking about it, it had to close down sooner or later. Luckily we can still shop from Woolworths online!
