Not sure if you’ve noticed, but it has been quite hot this week.
Yes, that is sarcasm. Of course you’ve noticed. What is funny, though, is that the same people whinging about the heat are generally the ones who complain about how rubbish British summers are when it barely gets about 20C.
Anyway, why am I talking about the weather, I hear you ask. Well, I only mention it because the soaring temperatures have certainly tested my resilience in training this week.
Now, I’m not comparing my efforts to Andy Murray slugging it out on Centre Court for the best part of four hours with the closed roof ramping up the humidity but, then again, I’m not comparing my fitness levels to his either (and I certainly can’t do those extreme push-ups).
I figure there are two ways of looking at this. One, I can moan about how much harder this makes my boxing sessions and fish for a bit of sympathy (and I’m not saying I’m averse to this tactic) or, two, I can accept that I’m going to be an even redder-faced, sweatier mess than usual and hope that it’s having an exponential effect on my weight-loss bid.
Well, I have to tell myself something. Motivation has been low this week and it hasn’t helped that a lot of others seem to have had the same problem.
Numbers at BoxLondon’s Saturday afternoon classes are down but, if people are opting for a sunny beer garden over a 90-minute sweatfest, I can’t say I really blame them. I guess it’s not their fault they don’t have me steely resolve.
There were still plenty of keen punters at Tuesday night’s session despite the heat, although a certain colleague who shall remain nameless decided it definitely wasn’t for her. Yes, you know who you are.
Fortunately, it seems temperatures are getting lower over the next few days. Now, don’t get me wrong – I like a bit of sunshine as much as the next person. It’s just that the odd passing thunderstorm will make it an easier decision to forgo the great outdoors.
Weight loss so far: Eight pounds
