Minister for Health Services Ann Keen dropped in to the New Epsom and Ewell Community Hospital (Neech) on Thursday, July 2, to see how it works alongside other forms of healthcare in the district.

The hospital is run by Central Surrey Health, which manages three other community hospitals in Surrey and also runs district nursing, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and health visiting.

As a community hospital, Neech focuses on rehabilitation and care for patients with all conditions, while on the same site the Poplars – also run by Central Surrey Health – provides neurological rehabilitation services for people after strokes and head injuries.

As well as being health minister, Ann Keen also chairs the Prime Minister’s Commission on the future of nursing and midwifery.

The commission is looking at how nurses can respond to future changes and developments in healthcare and aims to report on what the role of the nurse should be in the years to come.
