Residents living in high rise buildings should stay calm if they spot fire engines outside their windows.
Fire crews are set to tour Merton to update plans covering potential emergencies in the borough’s high rise buildings.
Jon Prater, the manager of Wimbledon fire station, said: “There’s no need to panic - our guys are just familiarising themselves with the layout of the buildings.
“The recent tragedy at Camberwell highlights the importance of this work.”
He said residents in blocks of flats could expect to see fire crews and vehicles parked outside their homes over the next few weeks.
He also reminded residents they can get a free home safety visit from the fire service by calling 0800 284 428.
