Veterans of the Royal Orphanage Asylum for girls in Beddington reunited to celebrate 70 years since the orphanage moved to Cornwall during the blitz.
The annual reunion welcomed the last “children” who were old enough to remember life at Carew Manor in Beddington.
Girls from 11th Mitcham Brownie Group were also invited to experience life as it would have been for the children of Carew.
The event, on June 6, saw the Brownies donning caps and white aprons before visiting the dovecote at Carew and at St Mary’s for a talk on the orphanage.
MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake was also at the reunion.
He said: “There is so much these women have to teach us.
“They lived in hard times without family, yet they have shared memories and bonds that are just as strong or stronger than they were 70 years ago.”
