Thirty-six council staff have been awarded professional and vocational qualification certificates.
Sutton Council’s strategic director of environment and Leisure Daniel Ratchford presented staff with qualifications that spanned a range of topics from literacy and management to NVQs.
A majority of the awards went to refuse and street cleansing staff who achieved a national certificate in adult literacy.
Staff studied for their qualifications on a part-time basis while continuing to work at Sutton.
Leader of the council Councillor Sean Brennan praised the achievers.
He said: “I really appreciate the amount of work that you have done to achieve these qualifications.
“Residents deserve high-quality services and your dedication in improving your skills and knowledge will directly benefit our residents.”
Over the next five years, Sutton Council will develop the skills of at least 500 employees up to a minimum of five GCSE’s at A*-C.
Courses differ across the council, with street cleaners and refuse collectors working on waste management NVQs while care workers get access to drop in services at local higher education colleges.
