A soldier from Croydon died after an ambush in Afghanistan which took five other lives on Friday.
Twenty-year-old Daniel Simpson, a member of 2nd Battalion The Rifles, was wounded in a first bomb blast near Sangin, in the Helmand province, and died in a second blast as he was being carried to safety.
Rifleman Simpson was a young father and leaves behind an eight-month-old son, Alfie.
He was being carried by colleague Joseph Murphy, 18, when they were both killed by another improvised explosive device (IED).
Capt Edward Poynter said: "He was always ready to help his fellow Riflemen. He could carry the weight of 10 men and often did."
