Plans to bring a café back to Manor Park near Sutton Town Centre got the go-ahead at the latest meeting of the Sutton Local Committee.
Under the proposals the café unit will be built with £116,000 given by the council to residents and the local committee to spend in their local area, and money from planning developments.
As part of the plans the committee will also be looking for a private party to convert the disused toilets on Sutton Green into a café.
Councillor Janet Lowne, chairman of the Sutton Local Committee, said: “It’s great news that cafés could be on the way for two of our town centre parks.
“Local people told us that they wanted cafés and it can only encourage even more people to use these excellent green spaces.”
In a survey carried out last year local people were asked what they would like to see in the park, and a new café was top of the list.
The former café closed in 2005 and was demolished last year after being condemned with dry rot.
Six potential operators have expressed an interest in running the new café, opposite the Aspects building on Throwley Way.
More than 40 people attended the committee meeting and took part in the debate.
The proposals will now go the council’s executive for approval.
